What are you going to wear?

Oh, that age old question that we often encounter prior to an event, a conference, or headed out to hang out with friends, neighbors, etc….

“What are you going to wear?”

Full disclosure I am not into fashion. Frankly, I find myself in a guessing game many times and really fall back into comfort over what is the latest trend. I do know many that are masters at figuring out the best wardrobe and always seem to be on top of their game. But, enough about clothing. That’s not what this post is even remotely focused on.

Today I want to focus on what you wear on your face and how much it not only impacts you but those around you. Have you ever walked into a room and there is someone that you immediately notice that looks like they are just angry at life. I believe the term is resting bad face… well not quite that, but I guess you all know what is usually said. You likely avoid that type of person. Or, conversely have you entered a room and almost gravitate toward the person that seems to have an aura about them? The person that even when at ease seems to have something beaming out of their eyes. You may not have reacted consciously to either, but my guess is you’ve reacted in some way.

My question in the title of this post was “What are you going to wear?” You have an opportunity every day to be either of the personas above. You have a chance to wear a smile, have happy in your eyes, and eagerness to engage or to simply fall into something else. You have an opportunity to be a lifting spirit in a room or to sap it’s energy. My Grandma used to tell me it’s much harder to frown than smile. Think of happy times if you need to. Think of your best memory. I’ve found that wisdom to have helped me and those around me my entire life. Am I always happy and bouncing? Far from it! But, do I try to wear happy whenever I can. Sure I do! I do it not only for me. I do it for those that I engage with to help them be more comfortable and to maybe brighten their day just a little. It can take a ton of energy, but it is certainly worth it.

Life throws enough obstacles and sometimes ick at all of us. We’re not always going to be able to pull off the best face, but we should try. Friends, some days it’s impossible and I’m there with you, but each and every day my hope for you, my hope for me, and my hope for everyone is that we can find at least one thing in life to smile about, even if its a memory that lifts you. Share that smile, share that memory if your comfortable, and WEAR IT!!!! Watch how much better you are received, how it may even lift your own spirits, and how the world itself might even be brighter. I surely hope so anyway!!! Be well, be happy, and of course always be kind to yourself and those around you even if its by wearing your beautiful smile!
